I was thinking about the days when I knew all my friends and relatives phone numbers by heart. Wasn't that awesome? I tried to remember my grandma's home number today and couldn't for the life of me! My own grandmother! I only had her cell number in my phone and she didn't answer that, so I was going to try her at home. I think I've remembered it now, but that's what started me reminiscing. I don't even know my own mother's cell number by heart these days. Sorry mom!
I still remember my childhood friends' numbers and even remember the tones certain numbers made. Our number growing up sounded like part of the 1812 Overture (thanks to Reed Glasmann, who listened to Jackie, who listened to me hum the tune over Voxer, for the title of that brilliant piece of music. I wanted to say William Tell's Overture, but knew that just wasn't right!). Fun times.
I was calling my grandma to ask a question about a recipe of hers. Her famous saucy pork chops are slow cooking in my oven right now and the aroma is heavenly. Mmmm. Nostalgic comfort food is the best.
It's been snowing all day today after we've had a nice couple weeks of highs in the 40's. The snow had almost melted from the lawn. I was up in Billings running errands yesterday with a short sleeve shirt and no jacket. I guess we needed the reminder that it's still winter. And will be for awhile. I'm okay with it though. I'd much rather have a view of fresh powder than patches of old icy snow. I love the stillness and quiet fresh falling snow brings. My Sorel boots have been wonderful and getting a lot of use this winter.
I've become a "reader" the last few months. Not by the standards of some of my friends, but I've been reading a lot more than I have in the last few years. I get some nice quiet time in the afternoon while Rhett is sleeping and Connor is at preschool. I have a zillion other things I COULD be doing around the house during that break, but man it feels nice to plop myself on the couch with a book. (Not gonna lie. My PB M&M friends usually tag along).
If you have any suggestions for some good books I should read, let me know!
Now to close my randomness for the day. After several years, I'm still in love with my rice cooker. Seriously, get one if you haven't yet. It has changed my life. Chuck the rice and water in. Close the lid. Press the button. Wait for it to beep. Done. Meanwhile, I can finish up making the rest of dinner, read a book, or play Candy Crush. ;) Comes out perfect every time. One of the best purchases I have ever made. Not even kidding. Amen.

I just bought a rice cooker last week! I feel like I've been missing out. It's also great for cooking quinoa :)
ReplyDeleteI just read Betty Zane for my book club. By Zane grey. It's free on iBooks and it's my most favorite book. Historical fiction. I've read it like ten times in the past two years.
I seriously wouldn't know the first place to start cooking rice without my rice cooker. Unless we're talking about rice-a-roni (which I'm pretty sure doesn't count). I've been trying to read a lot more too. But I've been digging into too many mystery novels-makes for some gross dreams. Hopefully you're having better luck!
