I wrote a fabulous post on the Blogger app on my phone that got eaten by the technology monsters when I was looking the other way (or maybe I didn't save it before I was summoned by a child). It was really clever, and hilarious. ;) Some of my best work, I'm sure. Oh well, you'll have to get over it.
On Wednesday I got the itch to do some home improvement. Besides moving our stuff in, we haven't done much to make this home "ours" yet. I decided the mudroom would be a wonderful place to start. I love the space we have. It's awesome to have a place to take off coats and boots, and drop backpacks without cluttering up the front entryway. It's pretty much just an open space right now though, with a large closet.
I have been cringing at the Mac 'n Cheese Orange walls in this room ever since we moved in. It actually didn't look too bad with the previous owner's stuff in it. It had a sort of Mediterranean vibe going on. It's just not my style. I love the diagonal set tile floor, and I really like the shape of the window at the end of the room.
BEFORE:
I got browsing mudrooms on Pinterest and BAM! Put my painting pants on and got to work. (No matter how careful I think I can be, paint always ends up everywhere, so I don't take any chances!) I decided on a light dusty blue color, and I've been busy painting away the last couple nights after the kids are in bed. It's taken quite a bit of time because the walls are super textured. I'm not quite done. Reid's had to work a lot the past few days, so it's been nice to have a project to keep me busy.
IN PROGRESS:

Once it's all painted, I'm hoping to get some motivation for the rest of my vision, which includes a long bench with storage for boots and shoes underneath, hooks with a shelf set on top, and some cubbies or baskets for seasonal accessories. I'm also thinking about hanging up the kids current artwork in here too. The closet could definitely use some better organization.
On a side note, I love being reminded of my previous painting projects every time I get out my supplies. I see hints of the red paint of my kitchen in Oregon that my wonderful friends helped me paint before we moved in. I see the gray from when my sister-in-law Shauna helped me repaint the kitchen after the red got old. I see smidges of the light green paint I used for the nursery when I was largely pregnant with Connor.
Good times.
