Potty Training...Dun, Dun, Dun

WARNING! Potty talk to follow...

So, Clark's 3rd birthday is fast approaching. We figured it was about time we finally started the dreaded process of teaching him how to use the toilet. Over the past year he has sat on the toilet several times, thinking it was super neat, but ending up with nothing but clear water in the bowl.

I was super apprehensive about potty training. I read the book "Toilet Training in Less Than a Day" as recommended by a few different friends, and on the first weekend of April I decided to go for it. I followed its methods fairly closely with a few changes to cater to what I thought Clark would respond to.

Thankfully, things have gone well! He hasn't worn a diaper since we took it off the morning we started potty training. Accidents were pretty common the first week, but since then he's done great. Only the occasional accident. Now, #2 is another story. We haven't conquered that yet. Hopefully soon...

Something I really like that came from the book's method is that he has learned to do it all himself - I don't have to go into the bathroom every time he has to go. He puts his underwear and pants back on himself (Tag goes in the back!) He also knows how to take care of wet clothes and stuff if he has an accident. I don't have to touch it!

The last few days he decided he wanted to be cool and stand up to go like the big boys. It's hilarious. Luckily he's had pretty good aim.

Anyway, just thought I'd share that Clark is officially a "Big Boy" now. Thanks to all of you who gave me advice and cheers!

  3. GOOD LUCK! I have that book too, but didn't really follow it with Grant. It took him forever to get the hang of it. Now he's accident free. And thinks he's supposed to stand up and it's hilarious to watch. Nora is another story....

  4. Oh the joy and frustration! I am so glad I have girls! Congrats on the potty training. I loved that book!

And don't worry bowel movements are kind of hard, it seems like you have to re-potty train in that area!

Good luck! It pays off in the end!

  6. We put a portable dvd player on a box in the bathroom for Olivia to watch while she is "working out" her business. Now when she has to poop she tell us she needs a movie. That is my recommendation for #2.
