I just completed my 5th week of gym-going. I honestly didn't think I'd last this long. Every time I've started a work-out program of some sort, I've quit after about 2 weeks. Sound familiar to anyone? You are really tired, so decide to skip out one day....then another....then another....oh my pillow is so comfy....and then you've unintentionally quit. I've had some rough days, but I have been determined to get up and go even if all I can do is walk on the treadmill and do some stretching. :) At least my habit doesn't get broken.
As far as progress goes, I have been consistently running approx. 3 miles. Some days a little more, some days a little less. The max has been 3.5. We've still been alternating between resistance training for arms & legs - and doing abs everyday. I'm thinking I'm gonna start mixing up my cardio a bit and do some cycling & maybe elliptical, instead of running everyday.
I bought some new running shoes finally. Mine were at least 6 years old - and have been through a lot. The support wasn't what it once was (hmm...that reminds me I need to get a new sports bra too...). I'm excited to try my shoes out on Monday. Hopefully it will help the aches I've been feeling in my arches.
One of my favorite things about going to the gym at the same time every morning is the people watching. It's funny how I don't know these people, but could tell you a lot about them. There's the 2 skinny red heads that do the elliptical - one wears the same brown pants every time. There's the grey-haired man who exercises in his slippers, some shorts, and a coffee mug. There's the older lady who rocks the elliptical and THEN the stair stepper, always has a smile on her face, and gets all the older men talking to her (she's my idol). There's BYU dude, who we think resembles Dallas Stevens. There's Mr. sporty who is obsessive about watching ESPN while he runs, moving treadmills mid-run so he can watch it - oh and also has his speed set to 7.5 (we peeked). Anyway...fun stuff.

I totally know about the 2 week thing. You are doing so great. Keep up the good work. By the way this is Patti Cheney from the ward.
ReplyDeleteLOL, Dallas Stevens! I hope Erin reads this! Great Job Kristen! How long is your membership for? Maybe I can get you to LA Fitness after???
ReplyDeleteway to go! I love the people watching commentary...:) sounds like a Seinfeld episode! he!
ReplyDeleteyay for being committed. and actually following through.
ReplyDeleteYou are awesome! I also think the people watching is too funny! It is funny to see the same people day after day, but only in the realm of the gym. I am so glad that things are going well and wish that I could have gone for the entire free month. I bet you are looking smokin' hot! Good for you!
ReplyDeleteI'm SO glad mr.one-piece-spandex decided to join our people watching family today, he definitely makes it a lot more motivating to come now, especially if he's right infront of us.And don't forget the older guy that looks like the guy from office space that says "I believe you have my stapler" and wears headphones that are so big he could get messages from mars.
ReplyDeleteYou Rock!! I, too, am ready to have my body back. I discovered on Sunday that I can't go on a stroll with my 3 little people without my husband because everyone wants to ride in the double stroller. Hmmm....the only exercise there is whatever it takes to heft a little person around the block. You've inspired me...I think I'll find a gym!
