Shadowhunters, Zombies, and Valentines

I finished City of Ashes this week (Mortal Instruments Book 2).  I read the first book, City of Bones, a couple years ago.  We watched the movie a couple weeks ago, and I wanted to find out what happens with the rest of the story, so I decided to pick up the sequel.  I didn't realize when I started it that there are already 5 books in the series, with a 6th coming out in May.  It's fun and has kept me interested enough to check out the 3rd book.

I saw a tweet from Oreo awhile ago that said to reply with #SENDMEOREO and the first 10,000 would be sent a package of their new Oreos to try.  They came through, and I received this lovely package in the mail.  Free Oreos are always a good thing.

Speaking of packages.  My parents sent the kids a Valentine's Day package.  They were so excited!

Connor thought these Spongebob gummy "swords" were awesome.  Of course the sticks were used as swords for the next few days, until I snatched them up.

I have been meaning to put some chalkboard art on this chalkboard for the last few months.  I had a friend teach me some tips and tricks for doing it.  This week, I finally put them to use and made this 17"x21" sign. I hope to change it up every month.

I designed it in Photoshop first (first time using Photoshop, a little late to the game I know!)  I really like creating graphic art, as I've always been a doodler and love writing in different fonts.  I think I might spend more time reading up on tutorials.  I'd love to learn more!

I carpool with a neighbor for preschool drop-off.  The other day, we were waiting in the front room.  Rhett was playing with blocks and Connor was playing Toca Builders.

At Cub Scouts on Wednesday I taught the boys a skit for them to perform next time at the Blue and Gold banquet.  It's the skit where a boy walks in chewing bubblegum, and then sits down and sticks it to a chair to "save it for later".  Then the other boys come through one at a time, or a couple at a time and do something gross to the gum and walk off (steps on it, sneezes on it, dog pees on it, motorcycles run over it, etc.) then the original boy comes back and finds his gum still where he left it and pops it in his mouth, super happy with himself.  The boys thought it was hilarious.  I'm glad they were into it.  Makes my job easier. :)

I was also put in charge of coming up with a skit for the leaders to do.  We didn't have much time to practice, so we're just doing the "Father Abraham" silly song.  I think the cub scouts will be amused watching their leaders make fools of themselves.  Heaven knows I'm good at that!

I decided to document my long hair.  I've been getting the itch to chop it to a short bob again.  This week I started curling it more often, which makes me like it more.  I'll at least wait until Spring/Early Summer.  We shall see!

Selfies are awkward!

The boys didn't have school on Friday (teacher in-service), so they had their Valentines parties on Thursday.  They all took Legos Star Wars Valentines with Dum-Dums attached.  Kids make holidays so much more fun!  They were all excited to write their names and classmates names on the cards.  Jack has the best handwriting of the 3 boys right now.  It's even better than Reid's! ;)

While I was helping one of the boys get ready for school, Rhett plopped himself up to the counter and plowed through the bag of Dum-Dums.  Luckily, the other boys had already taken out the suckers they needed for their cards.  He did this in about 10 min.  I was seriously impressed with how many he got through in such a short time.  Too bad he couldn't hide the evidence.  He doesn't dare jump off the high bar stools.  He looked at me like, "What?"  I guess suckers for breakfast works.

On Thursday we had some fun friends over for a play date.  My friend, Rachel has an adorable 8 week old baby girl.  You better believe I took the opportunity to snuggle her.  Rhett was quite jealous, and insisted that Rachel hold him all wrapped up in a blanket.  Lol.  He sat with her for a long time.

With no school Friday, I needed to get out of the house, so I took the boys out to McDonalds for lunch.  They've been working hard at staying in their beds until at least 6am (I know...it's a problem!).  For their reward, they got to choose a Happy Meal or a large milkshake.  Clark and Jack both chose large chocolate shakes (Clark with no whipped cream/cherry), and Connor got a Happy Meal.  It was a nice break and by the time we got home it was nap time.  Perfect. :D

Friday night, I took Jack on a date.  He's been feeling a little down on himself lately, so thought some good one-on-one time would be good.  I let him choose dinner.  He chose to go to Minchow's Food Court (in Lovell) and get a corn dog.  I tried to talk him into going somewhere nicer, but that's honestly all he wanted.

After dinner we went to the "Purple Game" at the high school.  They were raising money and awareness for Cystic Fibrosis.  I was sporting the purple "Take a BITE out of Cystic Fibrosis" t-shirt I bought.  The stands were filled with purple.  They chose CF, because one of the students suffers from it.  They did a presentation honoring her with a picture slideshow and such.  The crowd gave her a standing ovation.  It was really touching.

Jack had me cracking up.  Every time the pep band would play, he'd stand up and dance like no one was watching.  He is not ashamed of his dance moves.  Ha!  We both had a blast, but I'm so glad that Jack had a good time.  (Note: after a family dance party on Saturday he came up to me and said, "Mom, I'm gonna be a dancer when I grow up...because I'm so good at it.")

Reid and I went out on Saturday night to celebrate Valentine's Day.  We went to the Lamplighter in Powell, which is the fanciest restaurant around.  It's a nice Steakhouse.  I presented Reid with some amazing Walking Dead Valentines.  He was amused, and a little grossed out since he was about to dive into a medium rare steak.  He loves the show, but I can't even watch it.  :)

These made me giggle though!  So romantic.

Funny The Walking Dead Ecard: Let's stay in and devour each other this Valentine's Day.
Funny The Walking Dead Ecard: In a zombie apocalypse I'd eat you last.
Funny The Walking Dead Ecard: For me, you're the perfect combination of body and brains.
Funny The Walking Dead Ecard: I'd have to be brain-dead not to want you as my Valentine.

We ended the night watching the movie, Austenland.  I loved the book by Shannon Hale, so was anxious to see the movie.  It was pretty funny!  I think I still liked the book better.  I just found out there is a sequel to the book, so I added it to my ever-growing "to-read" list on Goodreads.

It was a great week!
